The Primary Format

Levels of Instruction for the Primary Groups

Our camp makes a distinction between our Primary Format and our Intensive Format. The Primary Format is for students who want to have an intense learning experience, but may not have the conditioning to do the morning runs, weight training or perhaps all of the live wrestling that the more well conditioned wrestlers will be doing. All of our students are expected to come to camp prepared to work hard, however, we have made provisions for wrestlers who may need a slight modification from the Intensive program.

We take the time to make sure that our Primary students are paired by experience level, age as much as possible and of course by weight. We also teach at a pace that is adaptable to the skill level of the group. Further, the morning runs are encouraged but not required for the primary students. The Power Lectures are required for all 21, 12 and 7-Day students.

Our 21-day, 12-Day, 7-Day and 5-Day programs have a provision for students who may sign up for the Primary programs. All of our programs are designed to accept students at any level. However, we recommend that any student signing up for our 12 or 21 day programs have at least one full year of organized wrestling experience.

You will find that our 5-Day programs have the greatest number of options for students who will sigh up for the Primary Format.

Areas of Instruction
  • Takedowns
It is difficult to win without a good Single-Leg, Double-Leg and High-Crotch. Our system teaches wrestlers how to attack the right side, left side and middle of an opponent's body. Set ups, finishes and counters will be taught. Students will be taught upper body techniques as well as other miscellaneous takedowns.
  • Riding and Pinning
Break Downs, basic Riding position and counters to Escapes and Reversals will be taught. Arm Bar Series, Cradles, Nelsons and Situational Pinning will also be taught.
  • Escapes and Reversals
Each wrestler will be taught how to maintain a strong working base. Wrestlers will be taught Sit-Outs, Stand-Ups and the Side Roll Series. Set-Ups and combinations will be taught.
  • Leg Wrestling
Our expert Leg Wrestling instructors will teach the fundamentals of the Cross Body Ride, Figure Four Grapevine and the Turk series. Set-Ups Pinning and Defense to the Legs will be taught.
