History of Wrestling Camps

If you are interested in the world of amateur wrestling there are many ways to improve your skills and level of performance to competition level.

Wrestling camps are the best way to get a good start in your career as an amateur wrestler. Many kids get started in their schools or local gymnasiums and start what becomes a lifelong sport filled with dedicated training and camaraderie. The sport of modern wrestling traces its roots back to ancient Greece and Rome. The ancient Greeks were the first ones to make the best use of wrestling camps as hundreds of wrestlers trained all year for their opportunity to participate in the original Olympic Games. Wrestling was considered the number one sport in the games and being a competitor brought with an aspect of respect and fame especially for the winner.

Modern wrestling camps are best known for their adherence to teaching the same moves that have been used since the time of the Babylonians and the early Egyptians. These same moves were used in Greco and Roman wrestling competitions with the same skill and effects as they are today. Throughout the history of wrestling you will find that while the sport has changed and become less brutal the basic moves and holds have not changed very much.

Many of the best wrestling camps today find that an emphasis on wrestling skills alone is not enough to create a skilled wrestler who has the stamina to win. Instead emphasis is also placed on overall physical fitness, with many hours spent in the weight room lifting moderate weights to build endurance and strong muscles. Running has become a very popular way to help wrestler build stamina that will help them to stay strong throughout the match.

Physical strength and stamina are only a part of what the best wrestling camps teach a wrestler. It requires quick thinking skills and the ability to think and react under pressure so time is devoted to helping the wrestler learn every possible wrestling move and counter until he can act without hesitating when under the pressure of competition.

To become one of the best wrestling camps in the country you need to have a staff that is well trained and has years of hands-on experience, preferably both as a wrestler and as a coach. It would be difficult to be a successful coach and trainer if you have never actually been a wrestler. There are several schools in the country that have the staff and experience to be at the top of the list of wrestling camps in the country.

The Carl Adams World Class Wrestling Institute is one of the best wrestling camps in the country, with some of the best former amateur wrestlers in the country on staff. Founded by Carl Adams, who is a former 3 time All-American and 2 time NCAA Championship winner. Carl is also the head coach at Boston State University leading the Terriers to 10 Conference championships and he has been named Coach of the Year 4 times by the Conference.
